It’s no secret that I love drinking my greens! Smoothies and juices have been a tremendous part of my healing process as well as how I continue to stay healthy and energized.
This combination of dandelion greens and apples alongside the citrus is so refreshing and detoxifying. It doesn’t have a thick smoothie consistency, but it’s also not as liquid as a green juice.
Dandelion greens help to cleanse the liver, and offer high amounts of vitamins B6, C, E, and K, as well as antioxidants. They contain calcium, iron which is crucial for generating red blood cells, and potassium to help regulate heart rate and blood pressure. Grapefruit offers a combination of fibre, potassium, and vitamin C.
We all know by now that lemons are high in vitamin C , citric acid, flavonoids, B-complex vitamins, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and fibre. Lemons promote hydration, improve skin quality, aid in digestion, freshen your breath and also help to prevent kidney stones.
The apple – orange combination in the recipe lends a sweet note as the lemon, grapefruit, dandelion are bitter, which can be overwhelming if you are new to green smoothies.
6-8 dandelion green leaves
2 organic Gala apples
1/2 – 1 grapefruit
Juice of 1 lemon (again you can use half of the juice if you want a milder taste)
2 cups filtered water
Combine all ingredients in your blender jar, starting with the filtered water. Blend until smooth. Use a fine sieve to remove some of the pulp.
